Moventia is a family group founded in 1923. With more than 100 years in the transportation sector, it is, without any doubt, one of the undisputed market leaders in Spain. It has a fleet of more than 60.000 vehicles and employs approximately 7.000 people.

Moventia ‘s software management needs are considerably challenging. The speed and versatility that business requires to evolve contrasts with the robustness and stability requirements of large-scale companies. This makes software management increasingly difficult and requires specialized knowledge and experience.

Taking into account the more than 100 years of service that Moventia has, the constant fighting against technical debt and the modernization needs makes the software management not an easy task. Business-critical processes, such as product developments, new version deployments, or data synchronization and exploitation, become a real challenge.

Aware of this fact, Moventia asked TechsBCN to implement DevOps mechanisms that would facilitate software management and the technological evolution of the group. With the experience we have at TechsBCN, the chances of this request becoming a successful collaboration were very high. So it was.

Training, the Key to Implementation

Given the experience we have at TechsBCN, we know that the key to making the implementation of digital transformation projects a success is training. That is why the first phase of this transformation was the implementation of a series of DevOps workshops to update the technological knowledge of the Moventia’s IT team.

Leveraging on the team’s existing technological knowledge, a roadmap of training sessions was designed, covering the main DevOps concepts. Branching management strategies, artifact promotion or approaching to the cloud were some of the workshops specifically designed by TechsBCN for Moventia’s team.

Once the training was completed, the next phase was implementation. TechsBCN implemented an Azure DevOps installation in Moventia’s development pipeline and configured artifact promotion so that new versions of the software were deployed in a stable and controlled manner.

Taking advantage of other parallel projects, such as the new PMRS system from MoventisTechsBCN designed a portable and scalable development flow. In this way, a work mechanic was established that the Moventia development team could use in ongoing and future projects.
