Collaboration on Moventis’s Transport Management for the MIC
The MIC and Moventis, the Tournament’s Official Transport Provider
The MICFootball (Mediterranean International Cup) is one of the most recognized international youth football tournaments. It is held every Easter week across different towns on the Costa Brava, in the province of Girona, bringing together amateur academies and the youth academies of professional clubs from numerous countries. It was founded in 2001, initially with 136 teams in the Canary Islands.
Moventis, a TechsBCN client and a leading company in collective passenger mobility, is the tournament’s official transport provider. As small as it may sound, this tournament brings together more than 400 teams, with more than 9,000 participants, playing more than 1,000 matches — meaning the volume of transport to manage is enormous.
The main challenge in managing this transport is the very limited time available to organize it. While the group-stage fixtures are known months in advance, the later rounds (the knockout stage, following the group crossovers) are only decided from one day to the next, leaving just a window of hours to organize transport.
Until 2025, Moventis handled all of this manually: once match results were known late in the day, the team worked at a frantic pace to have the necessary buses ready for early the next morning. It was precisely for this reason that Moventis asked TechsBCN for a digital transformation process.
An Automated Flow for Bus Assignment and Route Optimization
After an in-depth analysis of the scenarios that could arise during the tournament, TechsBCN designed an automated flow to automatically assign buses to teams, optimize transport routes according to business-defined rules, and manage last-minute changes and exceptional cases.
The result was that tasks which until 2025 required a team of 6 people working at a frantic pace for hours (and even carried the risk of human error) were now resolved in just seconds of automatic processing.
On the technology side, TechsBCN built the MIC platform for Moventis using the latest .NET technology, with an event-driven architecture and asynchronous processes, all integrated through Open API standards. The front end was built with Angular and the backend with .NET 8, running on an Oracle database, with orchestration handled by RabbitMQ.
The Result
Thanks to this platform, Moventis went from relying on a team of six people working under extreme time pressure to resolving bus assignment and route optimization for the entire tournament in a matter of seconds, while also eliminating the risk of human error in a process as critical as it is time-sensitive.
