New PMRS System for Moventis
Transportation of People with Reduced Mobility
Moventis is one of the two major subdivisions that are part of Moventia. It specializes in the management of public transport (especially buses) and employs more than 7.000 professionals. With more than 100 years of experience in the sector, Moventis is positioned, without any doubt, as one of the most important transport providers in Spain.
Among the different services offered by Moventis TCC, in addition to more conventional types such as city buses, there is one with a great social value: the transportation of people with reduced mobility. Moventis TCC has a network widely developed enough to be able to offer official service to the town councils of the main cities in Spain to serve citizens who require it.
The mayor challenge that Moventis TCC faces in this type of service is the customization. Each person with reduced mobility has unique needs and, therefore, specific treatment. It is for this reason that relatively simple tasks in the management of “classic” passenger transport become a brainteaser in this modality.
Given the particularities that this type of service presents, the digitization and adaptation of information systems is crucial. It is for this reason that Moventis TCC decided to request to TechsBCN to modernize its Transport Management System for People with Reduced Mobility (PMRS).
The New Era of Transportation
Taking into account that Moventis TCC has been offering this service for more than 20 years, it is natural that the PMRS management system presented a very significant technical debt. Being aware of this fact and knowing the technological needs of the sector, Moventis TCC decided to invest in the modernization of its system with TechsBCN.
After carrying out several analysis phases (functional, technical, usability, etc.), TechsBCN proposed to Moventis TCC the implementation of a system based on Angular and .NET, in line with current market standards. The most important characteristic that PMRS had to meet was versatility: it is mandatory to be able to adapt the system to new needs in an agile and simple way.
Given this premise, TechsBCN designed a system based on DDD (Domain Driven Design) architecture and microservices. This decision was key to ensuring that PMRS could evolve with the changing needs of Moventis TCC in its management of the transportation of people with reduced mobility.
Far from being a watertight system, PMRS requires the integration of multiple platforms for its proper functioning. Taxi companies, municipal management systems or requests entry channels for end users are just some of the examples of integrations to which TechBCN had to adapt the system.
Another key factor was availability. Being a critical backoffice system to the day-to-day management of Moventis TC , the system must be robust and reliable. In this way, TechsBCN designed the new version of PMRS 100% cloud and following the main market best practices: quality assurance with SonarQube, DevOps, deployment in PaaS, etc.
The Result
Thanks to the intervention of TechsBCN, Moventis TCC currently has a robust, versatile and reliable PMRS management system. The positive feedback we have received about this system makes us feel especially proud of this project.
With a renewed system that solves the problem of technical debt, Moventis is able to focus on providing value to its clients and, in this case, it is especially relevant, given the social value that this service has for the community.
